Building Preschools

FoM has now funded the construction of eleven preschools in the municipality of Puerto Morazan, many have included wells with water pumps, latrines and gardens. All have been provided with teaching resources and classroom furniture. Often parents and members of the local community will volunteer their time and labour alongside our professional building team. The land is offered for free either by the local authority or by private individuals.

PROFESORA MARISOLPAZ ALI PRE SCHOOL PROJECT
Funds from Friends of Morazan and BLINC from the Copa Sandino football for Nicaragua tournament helped create a new preschool in the Paz Ali barrio of Puerto Morazan. The children had been using a simple wooden shack with a mud floor. Highlighted as a priority area by the Ministry of Education, our development worker Gioconda negotiated with the community and the land was offered to us by Don Cristobal who lives nearby. He said he wanted his children to have a better education and refused to sell the land despite coming under pressure from his brothers. He preferred to give it for free for the new school.

SAN JOSE PRE SCHOOL NEW BUILD PROJECT

Friends of Morazan was supported by the Malden Golf Club near London   and their past Ladies captain Tamsin Loke who together raised over £3,000 to pay half the costs of building the San Jose pre-school. The children were having lessons under a tree as they had no building and when it rained, classes were called off. The school is in the rural Luis Andino community in the Puerto Morazan municipality.
